Colin is an aspiring student who is interested in pursuing a career in aerospace engineering. He engaged with Hedgehog to visit our Burnaby office for a full day of job shadowing with our team.
What is job shadowing?
Job shadowing allows a prospective student to gain hands-on experience while on-site with the career path they are interested in. Typically, a professional takes them under their supervision to outline the day-to-day tasks that would be required. This is a method to gain further clarity into the chosen career and allow for personal growth and reflection.
Day-in-the-life of an engineer
Our mechanical engineer Faheem Saeed worked with Colin to describe a day-in-the-life of an engineer working on complex systems. The shadowing included explanations of product design from scope, understanding needs, consumer research, and developing criteria for a successful design.
On top of that, Colin was able to learn about modelling tools, how to analyse and report data, and have an overview of how materials can be calculated for force, impact, thermal and other conditions that may affect the final product. We wish Colin the best of luck in his future career path.
