Highlights from Job Shadowing Day at Hedgehog Technologies

Hedgehog held a job shadowing day for an aspiring engineer to help usher in the next generation of professionals who will shape our future society. 

Job shadowing provides students with the opportunity to engage with multiple engineering disciplines including electrical and mechanical. This is a chance for students to learn about the day-to-day life of an engineer and to find what discipline most interests them. 

Our mentee arrived in the morning and met with Erin Martin-Serrano, our director of business development. The day started with some introductions to the team followed by an overview of Hedgehog Tech projects and services.

Throughout the afternoon, the mentee had interactions with various disciplines within the company including:

• Introductions to electric vehicle charging
• Overview of how to draft proposals
• Examples of industrial design
• Examples of subsea technologies (both mechanical and electrical)
• Robotic competition 
• Hands-on soldering exercise 

This experience will help determine the path forward for this aspiring student. Becoming an engineer is more than learning theory in a classroom setting, it is about building relationships and getting hands-on experience that can be developed into future skills.
