Hazard Analysis
Identifying and quantifying the factors that can lead to a hazardous incident
Complex systems come with a variety of unforeseen challenges and having a clear scope of the potential hazards is critical for decision making. Whether it’s designing a new system, forming workplace safety policies, or preparing existing systems, a hazard analysis will reveal and quantify the risks, causes, effects, and corrective actions. Hazard analysis can be used as a tool to communicate system, design, project and corporate risks throughout the organization from the engineering team to the board of directors.
Hedgehog uses the following techniques to analyze hazards:
- Safety Risk Assessment
- Event/Fault Tree Analysis
- Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
- Function Failure Analysis
- Hazard and Operability Studies
- Cause-consequence Diagrams
- ISO 12100 – Risk assessment for machinery
- IEC 13849 – Machine Safety
- Participate in HAZOP
Identifying hazards in the preliminary stages of a project can mitigate future issues in both systems and the environment. The hazard analysis is continued throughout the product or equipment life cycle. After Hedgehog documents the hazards, the outcomes are presented in a Hazard Analysis Report that summarizes the findings with recommendations.
